Kitchen Treasures | A workshop that's well worth it! I was privileged to be a part of this workshop put together by Sis E of the Calabash Hub: giving presentations on my Top 10 product ingredients and Clays for facials and hair washes. Time for me to condition and clay my hair! Enjoy! Video courtesy of TheNaprika (Stacey).

Healthy Hair Meetup UK | Video Footage Just to share with those not checking out Youtube. Healthy Hair Meetup UK | We came, we saw, we were beautiful! This is a quick post for those ladies (and gents) who were unable to be at the meetup, as well as a fun picture share with those who did attend! We had around 25 ladies turn up on Sunday and we were a nice international bunch. With folks from the States and Germany, we had a real mix of ladies (not to mention my buddy from Russia!).
The Elixir Bar really was a perfect venue with friendly staff and great multimedia backup. They were also very accommodating of our haircare obsessions! lol! It's good when your venue host knows the benefits of jojoba oil already! We had three provisional sponsors when preparing for the meetup but for the day, we had 2 lovely sponsors on the ground: The Calabash Hub and The Goody Box UK! With refreshments flowing, we jumped right into the presentations with a "Healthy Hair Basics" talk to start with. Then, a Q&A followed: important questions on pH, hair typing and regimens cropped up here! We had two further presentations: a "Headwrapping demonstration" by Sis E of the Calabash Hub and a "Haircare Tips and Tricks" talk by myself. In between presentations, we would chat, eat and browse the natural goodies on sale! I really enjoyed the headwrap presentation - though I know most enjoyed it from the feedback we've received. I was touched by the generosity of both our sponsors on this event (helping with compiling the goodie bags and giving samples away!). My final few words would be, look out for the next event on the 29th of April being organised by Sis E, a "Product Making/Kitchen Treasures workshop". It promises to be informative and hands-on so get your tickets early! I better go get mine! The next Healthy Hair Meetup should be in mid-to-late June by God's grace (if not earlier!). It looks like hair conditioning with homemade treatments and twisting / braiding workshops are going to be the order of the day: from the feedback forms...yay! I will get cracking on that one! Can't wait! Ciao, lovelies! Video coming soon! More pictures for your perusal below! You are invited! Flat Invitations and Announcements by Vistaprint You are invited to the Meetup!

Life & Hair | One step forward..... So I realised that I will have to postpone my hair meetup until April and picked the 14th for a provisional date. Of course, other 'life' conflicts have to intrude!
Why can't hair and life just get along more? The purpose of this random ramble is to update you, lovely ladies (and gents). Hair meetup postponed till April for better Giveaway prizes and goodie bag selections. Video updates soon! Hair Meet Up | Updates I have finally created an eventbrite page so you can get tickets to the meetup!

Light refreshments I am aiming for 30 ladies (and children are allowed and free but do note there is no creche facility). I may increase numbers of tickets available. I am also contacting possible sponsors so we could have products surrounding us we could browse and buy! Watch this space! Hair Meetup | For the Relaxed, Natural and Curious! This would be my first but I figure I might as well get into it!
I want to base it somewhere we can meet easily but have it be a cosy evening with maybe 20 ladies there. I'm already compiling little things I can put in goodie bags for the ladies who attend as well as giveaways from haircare quizzes! You know you're interested. I will try to make sure my work commitments don't clash and start planning this in earnest. I just want to meet some of the ladies out there on hair journeys in the UK! Then maybe we can make it a monthly thing, by God's grace. Watch this space! Update | An Evening with Afrocenchix! This event happened on Sunday 27th November 2011 at the Terrace Kitchen & Bar, Norbury (Streatham hill area).
I only found out about this a week before the event through my lovely Hairlista buddy (Hey Leentora!). We were chatting on Hairlista and I quickly emailed the organisers to see if there was room for one more...lol! It was a nice evening out at a chilled bar with about 30 - 50 (I suck at guessing numbers) people in attendance. Mainly women, of course but also a handful of toddlers and about 6 men! We had the singer, Lanre, performing a couple of her songs for us with a presentation by the founders of Afrocenchix. These two young ladies are doing their thing! From the question and answer session, I realised that most natural and newly-natural ladies still had alot to learn about their hair. Its strengths, weaknesses and of course, its growth potential. Afterall, I am almost hip length now, 3 years into my hair journey! I am fully Nigerian and did come a long way to realise that my hair could realise longer lengths. Part of the reason I am still holding onto my texlaxed/relaxed ends is because I want to realise the true potential of my hair. If my combined length reaches tailbone, then I can chop and know it will grow back to there...and maybe even beyond that. I'm really considering organising black hair care events in UK throughout the year. For relaxed and natural ladies: to learn about the TLC we can give to our hair and that we do not have to believe the lie: "Black hair can't grow long" (Myth) That's not true for me and, I hope you grow (excuse the pun) to refute it too! Video of event will be posted soon! Thanks for dropping by! ♥ |
